What I did over the summer..

Thought I should let everyone know what I have been doing this summer, I have been working on a GML game in a group of three, the game is still in progress and I continue work in my free time.

Weekly update #1

I have decided to show my gradual game development progress through this blog, every week I will create a new post showing what I have been up to and how I feel I have progressed.

This week I completed a one hour exercise where I was to complete a few simple tasks, in order to refresh my unity skills.

  • import assets from asset store
  • create a skybox for your level
  • create a first person camera
  • create additional “stand still” camera to follow the player
  • switch between the cameras at the press of a button
  • add a light
  • create a crate fully textured and make sure is casting a shadow
  • create a spawn point for the player
  • create a teleporting point for the player that puts the player at the spawning point
  • add a sound when the player teleports

This was a relatively easy task, below is a screenshot of the completed unity scene. All 3d models are created by myself, but all textures are either found online, or from the unity asset store.

So, blog.. Yeah.

Hey Mr Blog, it seems I have neglected you again.
Anyway, 1GAM is out the window, I simply don't have enough time.

Been working with Unity3d, basically making a temple run style game to try and get my skills up. I only started a few days ago and this is what I have so far..
Video is very VERY early footage.

One Game A month?

I have been considering it for a while, but I guess that this is my official announcement that I have joined 1GAM.

http://onegameamonth.com/

Here I will be attempting to release a fully polished game every month for the whole of 2013! Sounds hard right? Well maybe not. The game I currently have in Beta "Muru" only took me 2 weeks, okay it is pretty simple and straightforward, but twelve simple working games is better than one complex game that doesn't get released.

I need to build up a record, both for future employers and for my own practice and I think this is the best way to do it.

Wish me luck, I have a feeling I will need it.

Land AHoy!

Had some time today and was feeling creative, so I ended up making procedural generated islands.
Do they work? Yes.
Will I use them? No Idea.
